Chlorit ist eine anthropogene, umweltverschmutzende Substanz. Das Hämenzym, Chlorit Dismutase (Cld), kann giftiges Chlorit in harmloses Chlorid sowie molekularen Sauerstoff umwandeln und katalysiert dabei eine Sauerstoff-Sauerstoff Doppelbindung. In dieser Arbeit wurden zwei repräsentative, aktive (Chlorit abbauende), bakterielle Clds biochemisch und biophysikalisch untersucht. Die beiden Clds unterscheiden sich in ihrer oligomeren Struktur, sowie in der größe ihrer Untereinheiten. Pentamere Cld von "Candidatus Nitrospira defluvii" (NdCld) hat eine sehr hohe intrinsische Stabilität (Tm=90C), während dimere Cld von Nitrobacter winogradskyi (NwCld) bereits bei niedrigeren Temperaturen schmilzt.
