Der Salbaum (Shorea robusta C.F. Gaertn) ist eine dipterocarpe Baumart in Zentralasien, welche an den südlichen Hängen des Himalayas beheimatet ist und zerstreute Vorkommen in Indien, Nepal, Bangladesch, Bhutan und dem südlichen China hat. Die feucht warmen tropischen Laubwälder in Bangladesch sind lokal unter der Bezeichnung Sal oder Gajari Wälder bekannt und bedecken rund 32% der Waldfläche. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit lag daher in der Analyse des menschlichen Einflusses auf die Biodiversität der Salbaum Wälder.
