Aufgrund der rasch wachsenden Bevölkerung, dem steigenden Bedarf nach tierischen Lebensmitteln in Ballungszentren und durch eine neue Politik der Landverteilung und des privaten Landbesitzes in Uganda wurden viele Pastoralisten, die bislang Rinder der Rasse Ankole mit sehr großen Hörnern Südwesten des Landes hielten, seßhaft. Kreuzungen von Ankole Rindern mit der Milchrasse Holstein Friesian sind an der Tagesordnung. Viele Bauern wollen aber auch reine Ankole-Rinder halten. Ein neues Produktionssystem, in dem Bauern getrennte Herden von reinen Ankole und von Kreuzungstieren halten, hat sich entwickelt.
