Aglianicone is a minor red grapevine variety mainly cultivated in small areas of Campania and Basilicata Regions. This variety has received little attention by both growers and researchers because of the supposed low grapes and wines quality. Recently, among the vine growers of the Cilento, Alburni and Vallo di Diano there has been a renewed interest in this variety, so a scouting activity has been carried out to recover accessions of Aglianicone, and to characterise them by means of SSR marker-based DNA fingerprinting and by means of ampelometric measurements of leaves, berries and seeds.
