La piralide del bosso nel Veneto

Widespread and harmful infestations of the box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis, in the Veneto region. The box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis (Walker) (Lepidoptera, Crambidae), is an alien species of Asian origin. Since 2007, the moth has become permanently established in many European countries, including Italy. In north-eastern Italy, in recent years, the species has been causing serious damage to ornamental box plants (Buxus spp., Buxaceae), being able to defoliate the plants several times a year and even lead them to death. Findings of the species in eastern Veneto, reported in this note, are to be added to others for the same region. Since until now an effective biological control of the box tree moth by natural enemies has not been detected, repeated insecticide treatments to protect box plants are needed, particularly those present in historic gardens and parks, as well as in monumental areas
