The present work deals with the question of structural damage modelling and related numerical simulations, with applications to the electricity generation and transportation assets of EDF. The main objective consists in predicting the evolution of defects which may preexist or not, at the macroscopic scale of the structure, submitted to monotonous quasistatic loading. In particular, cyclic or dynamic loading (fatigue, crash, earthquakes) are disregarded; other failure mechanisms such as buckling or plastic instabilities are also out of the scope. Given the difficulties to predict damage evolution in a general fashion, a hierarchical modelling strategy has been adopted, according to the nature and the expected richness of the results.
