We present the results of a study on behavioural, normative and perceived control beliefs about food waste among 68 adults attending a corporate restaurant. Two questionnaires were used to elicit salient beliefs and test the nature of the beliefs elicited depending on whether one uses “waste” or a more neutral formulation. 20 modal categories of beliefs were identified. Individuals have a generally positive attitude toward waste reduction and environmental impacts of waste are spontaneously mentioned. Normative beliefs emphasize the role of canteen staff and control beliefs make specific reference to situational parameters.
