Ernst Traugott Rosenzweig collection 1933-1977, 2000-2011 1938-1958

The Ernst Traugott Rosenzweig Collection contains personal papers, correspondence, a small amount of photographs, and a Hebrew Purim scroll. The bulk of the collection is comprised of correspondence between Ernst and his parents, Louis and Grete Rosenzweig née Kaufmann, circa 1954 to 1958; as well as official documents from Germany, England, and the United States.Digital ImageSee also the Louis Rosenzweig Collection, AR 25377.Ernst was born in Kassel on Oct. 4, 1922, the son of Louis and Grete Rosenzweig, and the brother of Irmgard Rosenzweig Wessel. Due to a childhood illness he was intellectually challenged. In 1936, his parents sent him to a boarding school in Switzerland. (See Grete Rosenzweig's memoir ‘My life’, ME 535.) He was sent to England in 1938 and immigrated to the U.S. on Feb. 25, 1947. Ernst worked as a gardener and groundskeeper at several places, ending up with the grounds crew at Yale University where he worked for many years.
