Sense of belonging and social interactions of Iranian students in USU

It has been more than half century that Iranian students are coming to American universities, college and institutions for education and academic aims, among all academic centers. Utah State University has a long history of hosting of Iranian students. Before 1979 the university had many projects with University of Tehran and Iranian government. After 1979, Iranian State stopped the cooperation with American universities including USU. Therefore, the number of Iranian students has declined in USU. However, recently The Iranian population is increasing in USU. The objectives of the study are to discover and interpret the sense of belonging and social experiences Iranian students in interaction with each other and local community while they are student in USU. In fact, through an ethnography study and with emphases on social experiences and interactions of Iranian students with local community and Iranian community in Logan, Cache Valley; I would like to discover sense of belongs of Iranian students. Regarding this issue, studies show that interactions of international students with their classmates, professor and local community can improve their academic goals and create a sense of belong to their host community. Glass et al (2015) mention “Interactions that international students perceive as having an educational and developmental impact on their sense of belonging” (2015), and as a result it can improve social relationships and academic successes for international students.
