Iridoid and phenylethanoid / phenylpropanoid glycosides are reported to have significant anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive activities, and plants containing these secondary metabolites are widely used for their medicinal properties. We report the first metabolite profiling analysis comparing numerous species of Lamiales that produce significant amounts of harpagoside. This study enables us to identify a number of species with potential future pharmacological applications
