In this work, the effect of the soot-catalyst contact on the regeneration performance of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) wash-coated with nano-metric ceria particles was investigated. The catalyst load was suitably chosen to avoid major changes in pore size distribution of the original filter. Different amounts of soot were loaded into the filter, thus varying the catalyst/soot ratio. Filter samples were characterized by N2 physisorption at 77 K, Hg intrusion porosimetry and SEM/EDX analysis. Regeneration tests were performed in a lab-scale plant by temperature programmed combustion of soot.
