As more imaging modalities became available to clinical and research applications, multimodality imaging's importance and relevance to the biomedical scene have increased regularly over the years. Most recently, the advent of hybrid modalities has further eased clinical applications and moved this complex discipline to the forefront of biomedical imaging. This chapter summarizes the context of multimodality imaging from a historical viewpoint as well as with an emphasis on selected clinical applications that are either relevant, demonstrative or both. © 2008 Springer Science + Business Media B.V
