The need for reconnaissance forces has been documented throughout history. Thus, the process for recruiting, assessing, and training Reconnaissance Marines should not be left to chance. The Marine Corps' Basic Reconnaissance Course (BRC) is at the forefront of this process. As identified by examining the data obtained from BRC, attrition rates have been nearly 50 percent over the last three years, illustrating there is room for improvement. This study conducts a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the criteria used to select candidates for the BRC.
