Background/Purpose. Numerous studies indicate that nurses and other healthcare professionals receive little or no suicide-related education or training. Unfavorable attitudes about suicide can also negatively influence caregiver behaviors and impact patient care. Evaluations of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) as a gatekeeper training intervention consistently demonstrate enhanced knowledge, more favorable attitudes, and increased intervention skills.
