Thanks to their biocompatibility, biodegradability and their structure similar to natural biomacromolecules, polyphosphoesters (PPE) are appealing polymers for biomedical applications. In contrast to polyesters, PPE properties and functionality are easily tuned via the chemical nature of the lateral chains.
