Resolving genomic mixtures from biological samples recovered at crime scenes represents a real challenge the forensic genetics community is currently struggling to address. Notably, unbalanced DNA mixtures can be characterized by the presence of several contributors in différent DNA proportions, which may include the alleged perpetrator's DNA corresponding to the minor DNA contributor masked by the major contributor from the victim (or object owner).
