Ruthenium, per se, presents anticancer features which allow its targeting towards cancer cells, making it interesting in the research for novel therapeutic agents. In an attempt of searching for new anticancer agents, a family of ruthenium-derived compounds was synthesized, using a multifunctional approach in the design of the new molecules that exploits different tumor properties, in order to increase the specific targeting of these compounds to cancer cells.
