Patients’ knowledge about the influence of the mouth cavity’s condition to the heart and blood vessels deseases and to performed cardiology interventions

Relevance of the problem and aim of the work. The most recent literature explores the relationship between oral health and other systemic diseases. Numerous studies have proved that poor oral hygiene is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The aim of this study was to identify patients' awareness of the impact of oral health on cardiovascular diseases. Material and the methods. The contingent consisted of 300 subjects undergoing cardiological interventions. The study assessed the subjects' knowledge of the impact of oral health on the cardiological interventions being carrried out. Results. 81.67 percent of subjects did not know about the oral clearance exam performed prior to the cardiological interventions. It was found that 46.67 percent of subjects had fewer than 16 natural teeth. 42.67 percent clean their teeth only once a week and undertake oral hygiening less often than once a year. Conclusions. 1. Most subjects believe that good oral health affects the body's general health and did not know about the dental check up carried out prior to cardiological interventions. 2. The majority of CVD patients had not visited the dentist prior to cardiac intervention, and the dentist recommended oral treatment for the majority of patients. Cardiologists and family doctors referred their patients for a consultation with the dentist at similar rates. 3. The oral health assesment carried out prior to the cardiological intervention typically resulted in the removal of damaged teeth and treatment of teeth damaged tby caries. 4.
