In this book a theoretical model of morality is presented, outlining moral collectives originally gathered physically in interaction rituals. It is contended that loyalty to the group is the basis of every moral system, making promise keeping and also, in more elaborated systems, obedience to the moral norms as such, a crucial sign of adherence. Most moral systems are complemented with norms of various origins, such as mercy and justice, and subjected to constant modifications depending on the outcomes of contextual strains and internal strife. In this book morality, both in historical and contemporary societies, is investigated and discussed, accentuating the social bases and cultural fluctuations of moral life
