1. The interactions between sympathetic neuroeffector transmission and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) were investigated in segments of rat isolated tail artery. 2. Contractile responses to field stimulation of the artery segments were abolished by tetrodotoxin (3 x 10(-7) M). A subthreshold concentration of acutely applied exogenous 5-HT (10(-8) M) markedly enhanced the contractions induced by sympathetic nerve stimulation, through an action on postjunctional 5-HT2-receptors. 3. The amplifying effect of 5-HT involved an enhanced influx of extracellular calcium into the smooth muscle cells. In contrast, the neurogenic contractions in vessels not exposed to 5-HT were not dependent on extracellular calcium. 4. The adrenergic component of the ampli...
5-HT-induced contractions in the peripheral vasculature are largely due to activation of 5-HT2 recep...
SUMMARY In intra- and extracranial arteries from cat and man (under conditions in which dilation was...
1. Isolated basilar arteries from spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats (SHRSP) are more sens...
We studied the effects of 5-HT in resistance vessels. Compounds acting on 5-HT2A and 5-HT1B receptor...
Based on the previous finding that 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) co-exists with norepinephrine (NE) in ...
The study was performed to characterize pharmacologically the contractile 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)...
Immunohistochemistry as well as in vitro uptake and release of [3H]5-HT were performed on pial arter...
Infusion of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5 HI) in conscious rats results in a sustained (up to 30 days) fall...
We performed experiments in human cerebral arteries to determine the source of activator calcium dur...
5-Hydroxytryptamine caused contractions of isolated canine coronary artery rings. These contractions...
The aim was to determine whether uptake of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) by the 5-HT transporter (SERT)...
5-Hydroxytryptamine(1B/1D) (5-HT(1B/1D)) receptor coupling to contraction was investigated in endoth...
5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a powerful constrictor of coronary arteries and is considered to be in...
Abstract—Large arteries from hypertensive subjects are hyperresponsiveness to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5...
