Exekutive Funktionen sind wichtig für die Steuerung kognitiver Prozesse und sozial-emotionaler Anpassung. Das „Verhaltensinventar zur Beurteilung exekutiver Funktionen für das Kindergartenalter“ (BRIEF-P) erlaubt eine Einschätzung der exekutiven Funktionen aus Alltagsbeobachtungen. Die Eltern von 50 Kindern mit Down-Syndrom im Alter von 5 Jahren wurden um ihre Einschätzung gebeten. Der Vergleich mit Kindern ohne intellektuelle Beeinträchtigung zeigte gehäuft Auffälligkeiten in den Bereichen „Arbeitsgedächtnis“, „Planen/Organisieren“ und „Inhibition“.
