Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) are common natural phenomena along the Chilean coast. In southern fjords, the dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella is the most studied species because of its production of saxitoxin and analogues responsible for Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP).
