This work simulates and estimates the useful surface area of roof of the buildings of University of Surabaya for photovoltaic (PV) system installation. A representative building is used in simulation to calculate the panel capacity that can be produced by a roof mounted PV with grid-connected system. It was found that about 10,353 m2 of roof top of the university buildings could be used for panels installation. The total capacity of the panels is about 2,030 kWp or 2,03 MWp. The capacity consists of four roof directions, i.e., 630 kWp, 535 kWp, 668 kWp and 553 kWp respectively for NE, SE, SW and NW roof directions
