Characterising the relationship between migraine and depression

This thesis focused on investigating the association between two common complex diseases—migraine and depression—by analysing both phenotype and genotype data. Multiple studies, including twin modelling and cutting-edge statistical analysis of genome-wide association data, were performed to explore the research aims. The thesis greatly developed our current knowledge of the relationship between migraine and depression: indicating that the observed comorbidity between migraine and depression can be explained almost entirely by shared underlying genetically determined disease mechanisms; and suggest that patients with comorbid migraine and depression are genetically more similar to patients with only depression than patients with only migraine
