This thesis focused on investigating the association between two common complex diseases—migraine and depression—by analysing both phenotype and genotype data. Multiple studies, including twin modelling and cutting-edge statistical analysis of genome-wide association data, were performed to explore the research aims. The thesis greatly developed our current knowledge of the relationship between migraine and depression: indicating that the observed comorbidity between migraine and depression can be explained almost entirely by shared underlying genetically determined disease mechanisms; and suggest that patients with comorbid migraine and depression are genetically more similar to patients with only depression than patients with only migrain...
