Geographical aspect of social modernization of regional systems of settlements

The goal of the study is to identify the basic research problems related to the process of modernization of regional systems of settlement. The starting point of the author's studies are the concepts of modernization and a regional settlement system. Differentiation of the process of modernization occurs and develops with the increase of complexity of the settlement systems. These changes occur at different levels of spatialstructural complexity but not necessarily exactly at the same time and following the same direction. The more complex the settlement system is the more important role a multiplier effect plays on the one hand and the phenomenon of inertia does on the other hand.Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja podstawowych problemów badawczych procesu modernizacji regionalnych systemów osadniczych. Punktem wyjścia rozważań autora są pojęcia modernizacji i regionalnego systemu osadniczego. Zwrócono uwagę na fakt traktowania modernizacji jako procesu przechodzenia z historycznie wcześniejszych, prostszych form organizacji życia społeczno-gospodarczego obszaru do form bardziej nowocześniejszych. Procesy i struktury ludnościowe wykazują zasadniczo słabszą inercyjność w porównaniu z procesami gospodarczymi („uwięzienie” lokalizacyjne), co może powodować zmniejszenie się kohezji (spójności przemian gospodarczo-społecznych) poprzez ujawnianie odmiennych zachowań
