Evolution of soybean production in Catalão´s surroundings

Soybean has been one of the main agricultural crops produced in Brazil since the twentieth century. This crop corresponds to approximately 47% of the total volume of produced grains and the Centro-Oeste (Midwest) is the largest producer of the grain in Brazil. It is worth to highlight that, in the Southeast Goiás, the municipality of Catalão – GO experienced a major productive reorganization in the 1980s, with higher level of industrialization and the establishment of a good economic/technological infrastructure. More precisely, at the beginning of this century, due to physical capabilities, it consolidated modern agriculture, with large areas of flat relief, or gently rolling hills, that agricultural modernization effected evenly. The physical and natural characteristics of the soil, geographical location and aptitude for soybean seed production opened a range of great prosperity for the surrounding population of that city and also created new demand of products. Currently, this area is one of the “hotspots” of technical, scientific and informational prosperity in the agricultural productive process of Southwest Goiás. Thereby, the purpose of this study was to demonstrate the evolution of agricultural environment that led Catalão - GO to become an agricultural and soybean productive pole. The methodology used was bibliographical, using deductive and inductive methods aided by the evolutionary-historical method, through theoretical reference investigated in classical and contemporary authors. It has been found that the massive government incentives planned and deployed in the 1970s were very successful. Now, the Brazilian cerrado, and specifically Catalão´s surroundings, take advantage of those incentives, alongside the nation as a whole which benefits by agribusiness exports and from the development of an agroindustrial complex which developed around the Brazilian agricultural productive sector. As a limitation for further development, the Brazilian cerrado faces some logistics issues even though Catalão´s surroundings do no confront this situation.Sem bolsaA soja desde o século XX vem sendo um dos principais produtos agrícolas produzidos pelo Brasil. Em relação ao volume total de grãos produzidos, corresponde à aproximadamente 47%, sendo a região Centro-Oeste a maior produtora do grão no Brasil. Vale destacar que na porção Sudeste do Estado de Goiás o Município de Catalão-GO, nos anos de 1980, passou por uma grande reestruturação produtiva, com nível mais elevado de industrialização e existência de boa infra-estrutura econômica e/ou tecnológica. E mais precisamente no início deste século, em virtude, principalmente, das potencialidades físicas, consolidou-se pela agricultura moderna, com grandes extensões de áreas de relevo plano, ou suavemente ondulado, que a modernização da agricultura efetivou de forma homogênea. As características físico-naturais dos solos, a localização geográfica e aptidão para a produção de sementes de soja, abriram um leque de enorme prosperidade para as populações circunvizinhas da referida cidade e também fronteiras para novas demandas de produção. Atualmente, essa área representa uma das principais ilhas de prosperidade do meio técnico-científico-informacional no processo produtivo agrícola do sudoeste goiano. O objetivo deste trabalho, é relatar a evolução no meio agrícola que conduziram a Região de Catalão-GO a se transformar num polo de produção de soja e de agricultura. A metodologia adotada foi de cunho bibliográfico, com uso de métodos dedutivos e indutivos auxiliados pelo método histórico evolutivo, mediante referencial teórico estrutural investigado nos autores clássicos e contemporâneos. Constata-se que os incentivos governamentais pensados e postos em prática na década de 1970 tiveram muito sucesso. Atualmente o cerrado brasileiro e mais especificamente a região de Catalão-GO colhem frutos de tais incentivos e o país como um todo se beneficia na forma de exportações do agronegócio e também de todo um complexo agroindustrial que se desenvolveu em torno do setor produtivo agrícola brasileiro. Como limitação ao desenvolvimento ainda maior do Cerrado Brasileiro, pode-se destacar um sério problema de logística, embora a região de Catalão-GO não enfrente tal situação
