Als Krankheitserreger der Apple Blotch Disease verursacht Marssonina coronaria/Diplocarpon mali mittlerweile auch große Schäden in landwirtschaftlichen Bereichen Europas. Landwirte beklagen große Ernteverluste, verfrühte Seneszenz sowie eine komplette Entlaubung der betroffenen Apfelbäume. Aus diesen Grünen wurde ein Fungizid in Form von schwefelsaurer Tonerde (Aluminiumsulfat) gegen den Erreger ausgetestet sowie die für Pflanzen typischen Stressparameter während der Pathogen Infektion bestimmt.
