This research is the result of a partnership between three educational providers in the West Midlands of England. This region covers approximately 13,000 square kilometres, which span both rural and highly urbanised areas, and has a population of over 5.3 million. Although manufacturing remains a key part of the economy there are areas where there are significant levels of rural deprivation. These three educational providers are: The Open University Staffordshire University The West Midlands Region of the Workers’ Educational Association.
