What a very useful book Dr Julie Tinson has produced, though its unflinching account of the difficulties of access, consent, and even keeping your research participants interested, may well put you off the idea of researching with children in the first place. For those prepared to brave the challenges, there is a wealth of insights here. According to its introduction, the book addresses the needs of students and their supervisors, but anyone interested in the ethical and practical issues surrounding research with children between the ages of 8 and 17 will find it a rewarding read. (I should add that Dr Tinson subdivides this range into 8–11, 12–14, and 15–17-year-olds)
