Background: Acute Kidney Injury following cardiopulmonary bypass affects 5% of patients representing significant postoperative morbidity and mortality. Animal models have shown an increased uptake of Lipid Microemboli (LME) into the renal vasculature, potentially indicating ischaemic causation.
