AbstractOnline processing optimization through adaptive control can provide significant advances in process efficiency, tooling life and product quality. This paper describes conventional and enhanced methods for the monitoring and control of manufacturing processes. The differences between the available methods, architectures and the corresponding equipment are identified and evaluated. A systematic analysis of current and future systems and their components is made focusing on adaptive control systems implementation into manufacturing processes
