AbstractThe paper presents an evaluation of the rare earth industry in the former Soviet Union, Russia and the world. Main areas of use of rare earth metals, primary resources of rare earth metals are considered, forecast for the industry development is given. The conclusion about the prospects and opportunities of the organization of production and separation of rare earth metals at the Siberian Chemical Combine in the West Siberian region is made, and possible sources of raw materials for this production are analyzed
