AbstractWe present a sequence of progressively better lower bounds for the s pectral radius of a nonnegative matrix. Each element of the sequence is a function of the spectral radius of the geometric symmetrization of a power of the matrix, as defined by Schwenk. Each element provides a better approximation to the spectral radius than the elements in the sequences provided by other authors
