BackgroundConventional local anaesthesia in outpatient haemorrhoidectomy, using a diamond-shaped perianal block, is reliable, safe and inexpensive. It allows for early ambulation and short hospital stay. However, without sedation, local infiltration is perceived to be both uncomfortable and painful.
