AbstractObjectivesCatheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is the most common device-associated nosocomial infection worldwide. Bacteria, which exist as a biofilm inside catheters, show higher antimicrobial resistance when compared to non-CAUTI pathogens. The present study was conducted to determine the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of CAUTI and non-CAUTI bacteria.Materials and MethodsThe antibiotic susceptibility patterns of 102 uropathogens from noncatheterized patients and 100 uropathogens from catheterized patients were compared using the disc diffusion method.ResultsA higher incidence of uropathogens was correlated with catheter use in male patients.
