AbstractWe study here an initial-value problem for the Degasperis–Procesi equation with a strong dispersive term, which is an approximation to the incompressible Euler equations for shallow water waves. We first determine the blow-up set of breaking waves to the equation. We then prove the existence and uniqueness of global weak solutions to the equation with certain initial profiles
