Vascular calcification is an important problem in patients with chronic kidney disease. The pathobiology of vascular calcification is complex and is intricately related to bone remodeling. Mendoza et al. report that experimental metabolic acidosis prevents calcitriol-induced vascular calcification in uremic animals.
