ResumenDesde 1911, se han clasificado 38 especies correspondientes a Gracilaria, Gracilariophylla, Congracilaria, Gracilariopsis e Hydropuntia de la familia Gracilariaceae (Gracilariales, Rhodophyta), en los 17 estados litorales mexicanos, tanto en el Pacífico como en el golfo de México y Caribe mexicano, lo que representa el 16% de la flora mundial de Gracilariaceae. Los litorales mexicanos forman parte de una de las 8 áreas de endemismo para Gracilaria, y de una de las 3 para Hydropuntia. Los géneros Gracilariopsis, Congracilaria y Gracilariophylla requieren mayor atención sistemática.
