AbstractAcknowledging the importance of developing the engineering students’ foreign language competence and communication skills for succeeding in their career in the 21st century knowledge society, this paper shows that teaching and learning presentation skills in the English language courses and seminars in a technical university in Romania will help the students to reach their career goals. Knowing the rules of giving an effective academic, technical or business presentation and gaining experience in preparing and delivering such presentations within the English language courses represent the prerequisites for successful communication for career purposes in our society
