AbstractThis paper evaluates combined solar and heat pump systems for dwellings with the focus on direct or indirect use of solar irradiation and generic system configurations. The dynamic simulation study covers systems ranging from pure direct solar heat generation with seasonal heat storage over combined solar and heat pump systems to a pure air/water heat pump system and contributes to the International Energy Agencies Heat Pump Program Annex 38/Solar Heating and Cooling Task 44 “Solar and Heat Pump Systems”. The simulation results show characteristics of the applied configurations and their suitability for a particular design focus
