Prospecção Tecnológica e Consciência Sobre o Futuro: Um Estudo Sob a Ótica das Capacidades Dinâmicas Utilizando Modelagem de Equações Estruturais

ABSTRACTIn industries undergoing rapid and constant change such as the information technology (IT) industry, firms must develop dynamic capabilities in order to be competitive. One important aspect in this regard is the identification of future opportunities and threats. This article aims to identify the level of use of technology foresight and evaluation (TFE) techniques by IT companies in Brazil, and the relation between the use of these techniques and awareness of the future. The awareness of the future construct was operationalized in this study through the company’s ability to identify opportunities and threats and to develop an accurate vision about the future of their industry. Surprisingly, there was a low level of usage of TFE techniques, which are even unknown by many of the respondents. The most used techniques are the Scenario, Monitoring and Roadmapping. Through structural equation modeling was possible to verify that there is a positive and significant relationship between the use of TFE techniques and the awareness of the future, and between it and the leadership in innovation in the sector
