When I came to prepare this paper I realized that while my own knowledge of electromyography and other specialized physiotherapeutic procedures is extremely limited, the physiotherapist is probably not concerned with the niceties of clinical diagnosis. Nevertheless, both physician and physiotherapist require a knowledge of prognosis and the value of treatment. I have decided, therefore, to discuss a few of the modern concepts concerning these interesting but uncommon maladies
