Analysis of CCS Impact on Asian Energy Security

AbstractAsian countries are facing energy security issues while at the same time trying to address CO2 mitigation. This paper analyzes the relationships between energy security and CO2 mitigation using an energy systems model, DNE21+. The results reveal that the United States and Western Europe can reduce their CO2 emissions while maintaining the level of energy security. In contrast, Asian countries are confronting a trade-off between energy security and CO2 mitigation. With global CO2 constraint, Asian countries are concentrating their energy supplies on gas imports because of smaller gas reserves and a lower capacity of carbon storage, weakening their energy security
