AbstractAn m-by-n matrix has a nontrivial kernel if m<n. When the entries of the matrix are rational functions of a complex parameter, then there is a minimal polynomial basis for the continously varying part of the kernel. We present a formula for a polynomial basis for the continous kernel of a nonsquare rational matrix function, and discuss the minimality of this basis
