At a similar decrement in pH, acidosis produced by lowering the concentration of medium bicarbonate (metabolic acidosis) induces greater net calcium efflux from cultured neonatal mouse calvariae than acidosis produced by increasing the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (respiratory acidosis).
