AbstractThis paper provides an example of community scale renewable energy application named solar water pumping system (SWPS) with case study in a rural and karst area of Banyumeneng Village, Gunung Kidul, D.I. Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The main problem of community scale of renewable energy in rural area is sustainability. It has successed to be maintained with the integration concept of communities that has corresponded each other by its role. The sustainability indicator was reached by evaluation using some proven methodologies so that the system had given benefit to the local people for at least 6 years
