AbstractIEEE 802.16e specifies power saving standards for energy efficient communication of a mobile subscriber station. This paper investigates analytically and evaluate the performance of the sleep mode operation of IEEE 802.16e for the power saving class type -I. We analyze a sleep mode mechanism using batch service queueing system with multiple vacations and changeover time. It is observed that in the sleep mode, a mobile subscriber stations sleeps for a sleep window and wakes up to check the number of pending download packets. We study the overall message delay in the downlink channel and performance of mean number of packets in the queue, queueing delay and probability of blocking. Numerical results show that our proposed approach ach...
