AbstractLeading up to the Second International Conference on Low Dimensional Structures and Devices we continue our series of reports on advanced semiconductor R&D in Japan. Japan has used its accumulated technological expertise in LDSD technology to expand into new areas such as atom manipulation technology (AMT) or simply ‘atom technology’. Its R&D researchers are enhancing their leadership position in this field firmly believing in AMT'S central role in future devices
