AbstractBackground/purposeCarbonic anhydrase (CA) VI is a unique salivary isoenzyme that regulates the pH in the oral environment. Its increased levels result in a more-alkaline saliva, hence it was hypothesized to contribute to dental calculus formation together with salivary inorganic salts.
