SummaryInfective endocarditis (IE) is a life-threatening complication that may impair significantly the long-term prognosis of patients with cardiac disease. The profile of IE has changed over recent decades, with a decreasing prevalence of rheumatic fever and increasing survival of patients with congenital heart disease (CHDs).
